Vanessa, a server at RFD-WeHo, was working last weekend. She was trying to stay calm and collected in the middle of a super busy brunch shift. It was Golden Globe day and were were slamming. In the middle of it all, she overheard a woman asking for her at the front. She remembered that she had helped this guest at the counter about six months ago. Seeing her took Vanessa back to when they first met. She remembered how the woman told her about the craziness taking place in her life. The woman had decided to take a vacation. A six-month trip to Italy so she could ‘re-center’ herself and her priorities. Vanessa recommended Assisi as one of the most breath-taking and majestic places she’d ever been to. The woman took Vanessa’s advice, and when in Italy she visited all the churches in Assisi. On this day, the woman had returned to Los Angeles. She said “I got off the plane and came to RFD for some “real food, and to chance that Vanessa was working.” Luckily, she was. She presented Vanessa with a beautiful gift: A rosary bracelet with a St. Francis medallion on it.
Vanessa finished her shift and sat down with some of her fellow team members and manager and shared, “It choked me up inside, I have to admit. I mean, who was I to her?? I am just a RFD employee. We are in the service industry and most of us are here because we like people. I know it can get so crazy and difficult at times but sometimes people need us for an extra minute to talk, to vent, to get advice or whatever. Once in a while it is ok to slow down and be a good listener – you never know who needs your open ear.”
All of us at RFD were moved by this experience. We’re given chances everyday to connect with our guests and leave a lasting impression which Vanessa clearly did. These kinds of connections remind us that we are all just human and as people, we have the opportunity to create a positive experience everywhere we go. We want to thank Vanessa for being such a remarkable example of this message! Vanessa, we are grateful to have you @ RFD and so are our guests!
