Spring Clean with a Spring Cleanse
Beginning March 20th, on the spring equinox, I am doing a two week clean green eating cycle. Lucky for me, I spend most of my day in the kitchen at Real Food Daily, and therefore, am completely spoiled! I’ll drink fresh green juice every morning with ginger, turmeric and lemon for the anti-inflammatory benefits. Next, I’ll have an early lunch before our rush begins in the restaurant. Lunch is a Basic 3, including our seasonal daily vegetables, greens and one protein. That gives me plenty of energy to get through the afternoon. In the late afternoon, sometimes I need a little boost at which point I will have one of our incredible smoothies filled with plenty of vitamins and antioxidants.
After work, I practice hot yoga. Hot yoga really helps me to relax my body while exercising my muscles and sweating out toxins. I fell in love with this when first I moved to LA from NYC. When I finish with yoga, I’m starved! I will indulge in a giant green salad filled with fresh organic herbs, kale and arugula. Arugula is my all time favorite cruciferous vegetable that provides many of the same benefits as the notoriously nutritious better-known vegetables in the cruciferous family such as broccoli, kale and Brussels sprouts. I love the tenderness and the tangy flavor.
Of course by now, I have already tested and written all of the new spring recipes for our seasonal specials at Real Food Daily. It is the perfect time to give my body this detox. As soon as the new menu is in production I will begin to eat regularly and tasting food constantly will take over my life.
And then there is wine! I forgot to mention how much time and effort, (and tasting), I put into our organic and biodynamic, 100% vegan wine list. After this spring detox, I will be working on a special spring summer wine list with food pairings.
Ahhh, I love my job!
Before we all indulge once again, I encourage you to join me in this 2 week spring cleanse. We can all benefit from detoxifying our bodies. It is not a diet or a fast. It is simply a way to rejuvenate, recharge and revitalize our body and mind.
Lucky for you, RFD is holding an Instagram contest through April 3rd that allows you to share a photo of your favorite spring cleanse meal for a chance to win a RFD gift card. After you detox with me, hopefully you will be the lucky winner to come back and try our new spring specials two weeks from now! Best of luck and happy cleansing!
